When I was asked to do this nursery mural, the lady in charge just wanted a simple cartoon type palm tree to match the fabric draped on the window. Cartoons are not my style, but, I tried to make it something that the children would enjoy. I made pink clouds, like cotton candy and humorous little objects to make if fun. My granddaughter loved lady bugs, so I put some lady bugs in it, among other funny little animals that may not be noticed at first. I wanted to put Jesus in the scene, but, the lady thought that would be too serious. It wasn't until she heard me talking to someone else in the room that said she still remembers a nursery room of Winnie the Pooh, when she was little. I asked her if she wanted the children to remember Jesus, or Winnie, when they thought of their church. Thus, I was allowed to add Jesus to the nursery. I don't know why she didn't think that Jesus could be in a fun nursery theme. Jesus adores children!
There are a lot of fun little details that bring a smile to the face. After spending hours painting the palm tree, the first comment was not about the palm tree, but, the funny little worm at the bottom. It's all in the details...just like Jesus, who is interested in the details of our lives too. Just think, if God was not into details, we would all look alike! How would be find our own children at the park?
