Findlay, OH-The talents of artists from the Findlay area will be on display from now through July 19 in the Community Gallery at the Toledo Museum of Art. An artists’ reception will be held on Friday, July 13 from 7-9 p.m. with comments and awards at 7:15 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Artists from the Findlay area were asked to submit at least one work of art inspired by Jules Olitski. A major overview of work by acclaimed American painter Jules Olitski comes to the Toledo Museum of Art on May 31–Aug. 26, 2012.
The following artists received awards: Ann Reddy Damon, Best of Show for oil painting “Color Skeins”; Kelly Crosser Alge, Best Olitski Inspired for fused glass “Untitled”; Shelly Roper, Honorable Mention for her fabric artwork “Serenity”, Jon Gaberdiel, Honorable Mention for oil painting “103117”; Margie Shoop, Honorable Mention for photograph “Water Meets Momentum”.
Other artists whose works were accepted are: Nate Buck, Erika Clark, Nancy Cupp, Kristen Dukat, Adam Gasior, Judi Herrin, Fred Lewallen, Bob Mahaffey, Trenton McBeath, Nicole Metzger-Gasior, Tamera Rooney, David VanAtta and Beth Ziss. The exhibition was juried by Wynn Perry, coordinator of the Walter E. Terhune Gallery at Owens Community College Toledo campus. The Toledo Museum of Art Community Gallery, located in the west wing of the Museum’s lower level, hosts free exhibitions of artwork created by select groups in the greater Toledo region.
